Mind and Disposition.
Loquaciousness, with mocking jealousy, with frightful images, great tendency to mock, satire and ridiculous ideas.
Perfect happiness and cheerfulness followed by gradual fading of spirituality, want of self-control, and lasciviousness ; felt as if she was somebody else and in the hands of a stronger power.
Nervous irritability.
Discouragement ; distrust ; easily affected to tears.
Head.
[5] Giddiness (after resting).
Pulsating, beating headache with heat in the head, especially on the vertex or on the right lit side or over the eyes, preceding a cold in the head with stiffness of the neck.
Pressing headache in the temples ; as ; if the brain were pressing out, in the morning after rising, from motion, from stooping ; aggravated from pressure and while ascending ; relieved from lying down after eating.
Cutting headache as ; if a part of the right side of the head were cut off, worse after rising or ascending ; relieved from heat and after belching up wind.
Headache preceding coryza.
[10] Headache in the sun.
Falling off` of the hair, especially during pregnancy, with great aversion to the rays ; of the sun.
Eyes.
The eyes ; water with headache from a cold.
Itching and burning of the eyes.
Yellow color of the white of the eyes.
Ears.
[15] Dryness with want of wax and hardness of bearing.
Nose.
Redness of the point of the nose.
Bleeding of the nose (blood dark) and blowing of blood from the nose, especially in the morning.
Discharge of blood and matter from the nose.
Coryza a with discharge of thin water and red nostrils.
[20] Scabs in the nose.
Face.
Paleness, yellowness or lead-like color of the face.
Heat and redness of the otherwise pale face.
Erysipelatous inflammations of the cheeks.
Mouth and Throat.
Crumbling off of the decayed teeth.
[25] Difficulty of moving the tongue, with impossibility of opening the mouth wide.
Tongue dry, red, black, cracked, especially on the tip.
Swelling of the tongue.
Much slimy saliva, especially in the back part of the mouth.
Sensation of a plug in the throat, or as if a lump of mucus had collected in the throat, with continued painful desire to swallow.
[30] The fluid which is swallowed escapes through the nose.
Ulcers in the throat and on the inflamed tonsils.
Empty swallowing aggravates the pain in the throat more that the swallowing of food, or fluids ; are swallowed with less pain then solids.
Cannot swallow the food after masticating it, because it rests on the back part of the tongue, and produces a thrilling pain there.
Tonsils swollen, mostly the left one.
[35] When swallowing the pain extends to the (left) ear.
The inflammation and ulceration of the throat begin on the left side and extend later to the right side : (vide Lycopodium).
Much hawking up of mucus, which is excessively painful.
The external throat is very sensitive to the touch.
Stomach and Abdomen.
Desire for wine ; desire for oysters.
[40] Great thirst.
Nausea and vomiting of food.
Vomiting of bile or mucus.
The pit of the stomach is very painful to the touch.
Heat in the abdomen.
[45] Inflammation and abscess of the liver.
Great discomfort from having the clothes tight around the waist.
Stool and Anus.
Constipation, with ineffectual effort to evacuate.
Stools excessively offensive.
Diarrhoea and constipation in alternation.
[50] Constriction in tine rectum, or sensation of a plug in the anus.
The desire to evacuate continues after a pappy, offensive stool.
Stitch in the rectum when laughing or sneezing.
Haemorrhoidal tumors protrude after the stool, with constriction of the sphincter.
Large haemorrhoidal tumors (in persons addicted to spirituous drinks).
Urinary Organs.
[55] Urine foaming.
Sensation as if a ball were rolling in the bladder.
Sexual Organs.
Men. Great excitement of the sexual desire.
Induration of the prepuce.
Mercurio-syphilitic ulcers.
[60] Women. Menstruation suppressed.
Menstruation too scanty (blood black).
Menstrual colic, beginning in the left ovary.
During menstruation labor-like pain, as if everything were pressed downward, followed by a slight flow.
The uterus feels as if the os were open.
[65] Redness and swelling of the external parts (with discharge of mucus).
Swelling, induration, pain and other anomalies of the left ovary.
Mammae swollen.
Nipples swollen, erect, painful to the touch.
Sexual desire excited : Nymphomania.
Respiratory Organs and Heart.
[70] Burning in the chest.
Oppressed breathing, worse when talking and after eating.
Shortness of breath and suffocative attacks are caused by touching the larynx and are aggravated on moving the arms.
Periodical attacks of asthma (cannot lie down).
Hoarseness with a sensation of rawness and dryness in the larynx.
[75] Contraction of the chest wakens him after midnight, with slow heavy wheezing breathing, compelling him to sit up with his chest bent forward.
Oppressive pain in the chest as if full of wind, relieved by eructations.
Stitches in the (left side of the) chest, with difficult breathing.
Pain as from soreness in the chest.
Pneumonia (hepatization of the inflamed lungs).
[80] Palpitation of the heart, with fainting and anxiety.
Palpitation of the heart and choking from the slightest exertion.
Rheumatism of the heart.
Irregularity of the beats ; of the heart.
Constrictive sensation in the region of the heart.
[85] Cough caused by pressure on the larynx, or by any covering of the throat ; by a tickling in the pit of the throat and sternum ; when falling asleep ; from ulcers in the throat.
Cough, with rawness of the chest, difficult expectoration and pains in the throat, head and eyes.
Frequent attacks of short cough from tickling in the pit of the stomach, dry during the night ; difficult sometimes watery salty mucus, which has to be swallowed again, is raised.
The cough is worse, during the day, after sleeping, from changes in the temperature, from alcoholic drinks, from acids and sour drinks.
Cough with hoarseness. -Diphtheria.
Back and Neck.
[90] Pain in the small of back, with constipation, intermittent fever, palpitation of the heart or dyspnoea.
Pain in the os coccygis, when sitting down one feels as if sitting on something sharp.
Stiffness of the neck.
Extremities.
Upper. Lameness in the left shoulder.
Pain in the right shoulder-joint with headache.
[95] Perspiration in the axillae of strong smell (like garlic).
Pains in the wrist-joints as if sprained.
The hands go to sleep.
Trembling of the hands (in drunkards).
Tingling and pricking in the left hand.
[100] Swelling of the hands.
Numbness on the tips of the fingers (morning).
Stinging in the tips of the fingers.
The hands are cold, as if dead.
Lower. Uneasiness in the lower limbs.
[105] Trembling of the legs.
Stinging in the knees.
Sensation as if hot air were going through the knee-joints, which were shaky.
The (left) knee feels as if sprained.
Swelling of the knees.
[110] Caries of the tibia.
Coldness of the feet.
Swelling of the feet, worse after walking (during pregnancy).
Tingling in the toes.
Cracked skin between and on the toes, deep rhagades like cuts across the toes.
[115] Flat ulcers on the lower extremities, with blue or purple surroundings.
Gangrenous ulcers on the legs (toes).
Generalities.
Tearing, pricking, and pulsating pains.
Contractions of the muscles.
The left side is principally affected (paralysis), (throat), (ovaries).
[120] Excessively cold and excessively warm weather causes great debility.
Inclination to lie down and aversion to move.
Sleep.
Sleeplessness, especially before midnight.
When falling asleep he is awakened by a tickling cough.
Restless sleep, with many dreams and frequent waking.
[125] Sleeplessness in the evening with talkativeness.
Fever.
Pulse small and weak, but accelerated unequal or intermittent, or alternately full and small.
Chill, with chattering of the teeth.
Chill ascending the back often on alternate days.
Chill and heat alternating and changing localities.
[130] Heat, especially in the evening in the hands and feet.
Burning in the palms of the hands and soles of the feet at night.
Flushes of heat with great sensitiveness of the neck at night.
Internal sensation of heat, with cold feet.
Perspiration coloring the linen yellow red ; cold ; bloody.
[135] Intermittent fever, the paroxysms come on every spring, or after the suppression of the fever in the previous fall by quinine ; in the afternoon ; are accompanied by violent pain in the small of the back and limbs, oppression of the chest, violent headache with a red face and cold feet ; during the hot stage continuous talking ; face yellow or ashy.
Typhus fever, especially when the tongue is red or black, dry or in fissures especially on the tip, or when the tongue trembles when it is put out, or if, while endeavoring to put it out, the tip remains under the lower teeth or lip and cannot be put out.
Skin.
Itching.
Erysipelas.
Color of the skin bluish red (purple) or yellow (jaundice).
[140] Ulcers with great sensitiveness to the touch, uneven bottom, ichorous, offensive discharge, or burning when touched, especially around the lower extremities ; around the ulcer many small pimples or small ulcers on a purple skin.
Carbuncles, with purple-colored surroundings and many smaller boils around them.
Gangrenous ulcers.
Gangrenous blisters.
Purple spots.
[145] Small wounds bleed a good deal.
Ulcers bleed readily.
Cicatrices bleed readily.
Pain in old cicatrices.
Conditions.
Exacerbation in the evening.
Periodically (every spring, every fortnight), returning attacks (sore throat), (intermittent).
[150] All the symptoms are worse after sleep, especially after the siesta, or from taking acids, from alcoholic drinks, from the abuse of China and Mercury.
After Lachesis, Lycopodium often follows well.
Lachesis follows well after Arsenicum, Belladonna and Mercury.
